, by Aris Rosello, 3 min reading time

A complete step-by-step guide to installing a Roblox roleplay map in Roblox Studio — from downloading your file to publishing your server live.

Introduction

So you've found the perfect Roblox roleplay map — now what? Installing a Roblox RP map is easier than you think, whether you're setting up a private server for friends or launching a full community experience. This guide walks you through every step, from downloading your map to going live in Roblox Studio.

What You'll Need

  • A Roblox account (free)
  • Roblox Studio installed on your PC or Mac
  • Your purchased map file (usually a .rbxl or .rbxlx file)
  • Basic familiarity with Roblox Studio (don't worry — we'll guide you)

Step 1: Download Your Map File

After purchasing your map from Aris Production, you'll receive a download link via email or your order confirmation. Download the .rbxl file and save it somewhere easy to find, like your Desktop.

Step 2: Open Roblox Studio

Launch Roblox Studio from your desktop or via the Roblox website. If you haven't installed it yet, head to roblox.com/create and click Start Creating.

Step 3: Open the Map File

  1. In Roblox Studio, click File in the top menu.
  2. Select Open from File…
  3. Navigate to your downloaded .rbxl file and click Open.

Your map will load directly into Roblox Studio — you'll see the full environment appear in the viewport.

Step 4: Review and Customise

Before publishing, take a moment to explore the map:

  • Check the Explorer panel (View → Explorer) to see all parts and scripts.
  • Adjust spawn points if needed — look for SpawnLocation objects.
  • Customise team colours, lighting, or ambient settings to match your server's theme.
  • If the map includes a vehicle pack or system scripts, follow the included README for setup instructions.

Step 5: Publish to Roblox

  1. Click File → Publish to Roblox As…
  2. Give your game a name and description.
  3. Set the privacy to Public (or Private for testing).
  4. Click Create.

Your map is now live on Roblox! Share the game link with your community and start roleplaying.

Step 6: Configure Your Server Settings

Head to the Roblox Developer Dashboard to:

  • Set max player count (recommended: 10–30 for RP maps)
  • Enable VIP Servers so players can host private sessions
  • Add a game icon and thumbnail for a professional look

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Map won't open: Make sure you're using the latest version of Roblox Studio. Update via the Roblox website.
  • Scripts not working: Some maps require HTTP Requests or Studio Access to API Services to be enabled. Go to Game Settings → Security and toggle these on.
  • Missing textures: Ensure you have a stable internet connection — textures load from Roblox's CDN.
  • Spawn issues: Check that SpawnLocation objects are not anchored inside geometry.
